Gordon Maltby
--------------------------

Gordon
Maltby passed
away on Saturday October 20, 2007.
An ardent swanwicker of long standing, Gordon touched many lives in his
days at Swanwick.
Below
are some tributes from friends.

From
John Hulme
-----------------------
I shall
miss his friendship, his ready wit, his endless supply of jokes and his
positive outlook on life. Swanwick, for me, with never be quite the same
again.
Our thoughts are with his wife, Pan, and his family at this sad time.

What a delightful man Gordon was. It was so nice to see him happy and
enjoying Swanwick in August. We send our condolences to Gordon's family.
We will miss him greatly as part of our Swanwick family.
Gordon was always so thrilled at being at Swanwick and I am glad I saw
him smiling away and enjoying the week in August.
He was a thoroughly nice man.

From
Brendan Nolan
----------------------------
Always smiling, always
ready with a quip, Gordon
was never far from the centre of fun, no matter what was going on.
More importantly, he always acknowledged the arrival of a new member to
the party by name and made them welcome.
In the little things as with the larger, Gordon was a considerate and
kind person.
At the farewell, when those who were leaving by coach waved at those who
were staying, Gordon was always there, wishing all a happy journey.
I can but wish him the same.

From
Tony Dalton
-------------
When I first attended Swanwick in 1996 Gordon was one of those regulars
who made me welcome and quickly added me to his circle of friends.
Over the next few summers I looked forward to seeing him on the lawns
at the Hayes and hearing his jokes, new and old.
He was a special man: a very funny man.
I am proud to have been his friend.

I was so very sad to hear that we'd lost another Swanwick friend.
Gordon was courteous and fun, a real 'gentleman'.
He was also a good singer (being a member of a local choir) and a lovely
dancer.
At the barn dance some years ago he swung me with such gusto that my feet
left the floor - it was a hoot!
That's how I'll remember him, laughing, his face alight with merriment.
God bless, Gordon, you'll be missed.

------------
May I send my heartfelt condolences to Gordon's family? I was so sorry
to read that he had passed away.
I wasn't at Swanwick this year, but while there last year I had a chat
with Gordon when he told me he was being treated for cancer.
But he was so matter of fact about it and I thought - what a brave man
- he hadn't an atom of self-pity.
He loved Swanwick and I'll bet he'll be looking down on us all next year
and giving us a cheer for our 60th celebrations.

From John Jackson
------------
I was so sad to learn of the death of Gordon Maltby, a happy, encouraging
Swanwick friend, who never seemed to change despite life's trials and
tribulations.
Gordon and my many other Swanwick friends gave me much support and comfort
when I rejoined the happy band of brothers and sisters in August.
I hope Gordon realised how much his cheerful countenance and easy going
approach meant to me and my gratitude goes out to all of those who remembered
Eileen with such quiet love and understood my predicament.
Whether we consciously know it or not we all mean a great deal to one
another - and I for one will never forget how true that was for me at
the last Summer School.
