Writing Competitions for Swanwick 2008

1. The Jill Dick Memorial Competition

A special one-off competition for the School's Diamond Anniversary year
Category: Non-fiction
Subject: Anniversary
Maximum words: 1,200
First prize: free place to the value of £380 at the Diamond Anniversary of the Writers' Summer School, Swanwick, 9-15 August 2008 (funded by the Jill Dick Memorial Fund in association with the Writers' Summer School and Writers' News/Writing Magazine).
No entry fee
Closing date: 8th May 2008


2. The Writers Summer School Annual Short Story Competition
Open to any previously unpublished writer
Category: short stories of up to 1,000 words on any subject or theme
First prize: free place to the value of £380 at the Diamond Anniversary of the Writers' Summer School, Swanwick, 9-15 August 2008 (funded by the Writers' Summer School in association with Writers' News/Writing Magazine).
Trophies and runners-up prizes donated by Writers' News/Writing Magazine.
Entry fee: £2.00
Closing date: 8th May 2008


3. The Writers Summer School Annual Poetry Competition
Open to anyone who has earned less than £1,000 from poetry writing in the last two years
Category: any form
Theme: Diamonds
Maximum lines: 32
First prize: free place to the value of £380 at the Diamond Anniversary of the Writers' Summer School, Swanwick, 9-15 August 2008 (funded by Writers' News/Writing Magazine in association with the Writers' Summer School).
Trophies and runners-up prizes donated by Writers' News/Writing Magazine.
Entry fee: £2.00
Closing date: 8th May 2008

4. Writers Summer School Annual Children's Writing Competition
Open to anyone who has earned less than £5,000 from children's writing in the last two years
Category: the first 1,000 words of a novel aimed at readers aged anywhere in the age range of 11 to 16 years.
First prize: free place to the value of £380 at the Diamond Anniversary of the Writers' Summer School, Swanwick, 9-15 August 2008 (funded by the Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, in association with the Writers' Summer School and Writers' News/Writing Magazine.
Trophies and runners-up prizes donated by Writers' News/Writing Magazine.
Entry fee: £2.00
Closing date: 8th May 2008
