The Hayes
Conference Centre where the Writers' Summer School takes place is
in the village of Swanwick in Derbyshire. The nearest main town is Derby.
Built
in the 1860s as a gentleman's country residence, The Hayes was acquired
by a Christian organisation in 1910.
Improvements to modern standards began in 1991 with the building of the
Alan Booth Centre (twin-bedded en-suite rooms) and Lakeside (large single-
or double-occupancy double-bedded rooms with en-suite showers and a lift
to upper floors) which was completed in 2001.
Most of the accommodation is now in the Lakeside block.
In the Main House (which includes the Quad) upgraded rooms have facilities
similar to those offered in the Alan Booth Centre while Standard rooms
have washbasins, with bathrooms and tea/coffee points nearby.
Please
note that there are no longer any “Special Requirements” rooms
as these have all been refurbished and integrated into the upgraded standard
types.
